Contest: What's Standing in the Way of Change in Education?

Here is a chance to be heard. This contest will amplify student and teacher voices. A “Discussion Guide” enables teachers to hold a discussion with their students and produce a 3- 5 minute video or photo essay of ideas for educational change. Teachers who help produce the top three most ‘favourited' submissions will win a trip to Toronto and present their ideas at the October 2014 Canadian Education Association's annual Council Meeting. -more-

How ALPHA Alternative School Students Turned Out

In 1972, an alternative school known as “A Lot of Parents Hoping for an Alternative” (ALPHA) was established in Toronto. Run democratically by students, there were no exams, the school allowed students of mixed-age groups to learn together. ALPHA Alternative School recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.
